會(huì)連讀是發(fā)音地道的標(biāo)志之一,可以幫助提高說(shuō)話流暢度,也能有效地提高語(yǔ)速。尤其在聽(tīng)力當(dāng)中,很多迷惑考生的地方就在于說(shuō)話者使用了連讀。在劍橋六的一篇聽(tīng)力當(dāng)中,考題問(wèn)一樣?xùn)|西的價(jià)錢,正確答案是“280”,幾乎所有的同學(xué)都聽(tīng)成了“290”,因?yàn)檎f(shuō)話者在“two hundred”之后把“and”弱讀并且省音讀作了“n”,再與后邊的“eighty”連讀成了[neity],所以很多同學(xué)誤聽(tīng)成了“ninety”。所以不注意連讀的學(xué)習(xí)和練習(xí)甚至還會(huì)導(dǎo)致在聽(tīng)力方面丟分。而學(xué)習(xí)連讀的話,要注意連讀的條件:相鄰的兩詞在意義上必須密切相關(guān),同屬一個(gè)意群。朗閣海外考試研究中心的專家總結(jié),連讀可以分為以下四種:
1. 輔音+元音
如果相鄰兩詞中的前一個(gè)詞是以輔音結(jié)尾,后一個(gè)詞是以元音開(kāi)頭,這就要將輔音與元音連起來(lái)拼讀。例如:
give~up
take~out
turn~off
Take~it~easy.
Bears~are fuzzy.
Cats~eat fish bones.
Joe bought~a book.
I’m~an~English boy.
It~is~an~old book.
Let me have~a look~at~it.
other bowl~of rice
I called~you half~an~hour~ago.
Put~it~on, please.
Not~at~all.
Please pick~it~up.
I’d like~an
Ms Black worked in~an~office yesterday.
其中也有一些特殊情況,如以輔音結(jié)尾的單詞+h開(kāi)頭的單詞h不發(fā)音,與前面的輔音連讀,例如:
Tell~her I miss~her.
What wil(l he) [wili]do?
Ha(s he) [zi] done~it before?
Mus(t he) [ti] go?
Can he [ni] do it?
Should he [di] ….?
Tell~him to ask~her….
Lea(ve him) [vim].
“r/re+元音”,如果前一個(gè)詞是以-r或者-re結(jié)尾,后一個(gè)詞是以元音開(kāi)頭,這時(shí)的r或re不但要發(fā)/r/,而且還要與后面的元音拼起來(lái)連讀。例如:
for~ever
more~over
remember~it
a pair~of shoes
answer~it
a pair~of socks
on your~own
father~and son
Cheer~up!
as far~as
I do it for~him.
2. 輔音+半元音
英語(yǔ)語(yǔ)音中的/j/和/w/是半元音,如果前一個(gè)詞是以輔音結(jié)尾,后一個(gè)詞是以半元音,特別是/j/開(kāi)頭,此時(shí)也要連讀。例如:Thank~you.
音的同化也是一種連讀的現(xiàn)象,兩個(gè)詞之間非常平滑的過(guò)渡,導(dǎo)致一個(gè)音受臨音影響而變化。[t] [d] [s] [z]+[j] 要發(fā)生音變:
Ø 輔音[t]與[j]相鄰時(shí),被同化為[t∫]:[t] + [j] → [tſ ]
Nice to meet~you.
Can’t~you do it?
I’ll let~you know.
Is that~your car?
No, not~yet.
Ø 輔音[d]與[j]相鄰時(shí),被同化為[dЗ]:[d] + [j] → [dЗ]
Did~you get there late~again?
Would~you like~a cup~of tea?
Could~you help me, please?
Ø 輔音[s]與[j]相鄰時(shí), 被同化為[∫]:[s] + [j] → [ſ ]
God bless~you.
Can~you dress~yourself?
I miss~you.
Ø 輔音[z]與[j]相鄰時(shí), 被同化為[З]:[z] + [j] → [З ]
How was~your vacation?
He says~you’re good.
3. 元音+元音
如果前一個(gè)詞以元音結(jié)尾,后一個(gè)詞以元音開(kāi)頭,這兩個(gè)音往往也要自然而不間斷地連讀到一起。例如:
Do~I?
You’re [juə] so~honest.
I~am Chinese.
He~is very friendly to me.
She wants to study~English.
She can’t carry~it.
How~and why did you come here?
It’ll take you three~hours to walk there.
The question is too~easy for him to answer.
4. 輔音+輔音
爆破音/p/, /b/, /t/, /d/, /k/, /g/和摩擦音/f/, /v/, /W/,其中任意2個(gè)相臨時(shí),前一個(gè)音會(huì)輕音化,即由相關(guān)的發(fā)音器官做好這個(gè)發(fā)音的姿勢(shì),稍做停頓后即發(fā)后面的音。如果這些音在詞尾,也要輕音化。例如:
Si(t) down.
contac(t) lens
Da(d) tol(d) me.
hu(ge) change
goo(d) night
The girl in the re(d) coat was on a bla(ck) bike jus(t) now.
The bi(g) bus from the fa(c)tory is full of people.
Wha(t) time does he get up every morning?
This is an ol(d) pi(c)ture of a bi(g) car.
The ol(d) do(c)tor has a ca(t), too.
如果前詞尾輔音與后詞尾輔音相同,前輔音省略。
I was× so happy.
I have got× to go.→I have gotta go.(to輕音化為ta)
Do~you want× to dance? →do you wanna dance?(to輕音化為na)
當(dāng)然,也有一些不可連讀的情況:
當(dāng)短語(yǔ)或從句之間按意群進(jìn)行停頓時(shí),意群與意群之間即使有兩個(gè)相鄰的輔音與元音出現(xiàn),也不可連讀。例如:
Is~it a~hat or a cat? (hat與or之間不可以連讀)
There~is~a good book in my desk. (book與in之間不可以連讀)
Can you speak~English or French? (English與or之間不可以連讀)
Shall we meet at~eight or ten tomorrow morning? (meet與at, eight與or之間不可以連讀)
She opened the door and walked~in. (door與and之間不可以連讀)
注意強(qiáng)讀和弱讀
很多同學(xué)在說(shuō)英語(yǔ)的時(shí)候每一個(gè)發(fā)音都很重,就像說(shuō)漢語(yǔ)一樣。然而,說(shuō)英語(yǔ)的時(shí)候,每個(gè)詞的發(fā)音沒(méi)必要都要一板一眼的讀出來(lái),就好像讀音標(biāo)一樣。現(xiàn)在的詞典,在一個(gè)單詞的后邊也會(huì)有一個(gè)以上的發(fā)音,例如“of”,詞典的音標(biāo)就有四個(gè)[ɔv, əv, v, f],重讀的時(shí)候,也就是強(qiáng)調(diào)的時(shí)候讀[ɔv],弱讀就是后邊三種,最弱可以簡(jiǎn)化成一個(gè)簡(jiǎn)單的[f]。
弱讀的規(guī)則一般是:元音音節(jié)弱化成[ə]。
比如說(shuō)如下幾個(gè)單詞:at、of、the、to、as、than、and、or、his、a、an、but、been、for、her、we、be、shall、was、them,弱讀的頻率達(dá)到90%,其中a、an、the、than極少用強(qiáng)式。查字典會(huì)發(fā)現(xiàn)這些詞都至少有兩種讀音,如for,重讀時(shí)[fכ:],弱讀時(shí)[fə]。
I have been waiting for you for a long time.
He is in the room.
He has done it well.
I have seen it.
