Question: In modern society, fatherhood should be emphasized as much as motherhood. Do you agree or disagree?
  1st argument:
First of all, fatherhood plays an integral and critical role in shaping the personality and character of children. The strong impact made by fathers on children is best reflected in the case of single-parent families. Children raised in such families are often characterized by low self-esteem, because the fact that they come from broken families is frequently discriminated against and considered a laughing stock by their peers. Worse yet, in the event of divorce, it is widely adopted practice that the custody of the children is often granted to the mother and the father is obliged to pay a small sum of alimony on a regular basis-barely sufficient for the mother and the child to make a decent living. So, children from single-parent families are deprived of what their peers often take for granted-fancy toys, family trips, or video games. Moreover, fathers are often portrayed as the discipliner in the family, responsible for taking any necessary disciplinary actions-corporal punishment in some extreme cases-against their children. Mothers, on the other hand, are simply not up to the task of disciplining their children. If that is the case, the children may easily sidetrack, running the risks of becoming either a drug addict or a felon.
  2nd argument:
It is also worth noting that fathers can also engage in certain activities with their children that mothers are not deemed equally competent for. Sports, for instance, are not what full-time housewives have in mind when they take their children out for play. Fathers, much more qualified for sports than mothers, can teach the basic skills and techniques associated with a particular sport to their children, helping them to learn, in a step-by-step fashion, how to play these sports. In case of an accidental minor injury, fathers at least know the basic procedures needed for emergency treatment, such as how to tie a bandage properly and how to disinfect the wounds. Besides, fathers can take their children, especially boys, on adventures. They may choose to go camping in a jungle, which helps their children to deal with fears; they can go hiking or rock-climbing, providing their children opportunities to savor the victory if they succeed.
  3rd argument:
Despite all the promising advantages of fatherhood, it is doubtful that these advantages can materialize in reality. Fathers are, in most cases, the breadwinners in the family. They are often busily involved in their career pursuits, lacking adequate time set aside for their closest family members. If they give up their career, the quality of life of the family will drop significantly. It is a dilemma that requires fathers to strike a balance between work and family.
